Those that are bred to race and are not deemed racetrack worthy are killed. Those who do make “the cut” are literally running for their lives. In 2003 alone, an estimated 7,500 to 20,000 greyhounds were euthanized simply because they couldnt run fast enough.

The dogs stay in a small kennel on shredded newspaper all day unless they are running. If you ever visit a “Adopt a Retired Racing Greyound” facility, you can see that many are very thin and have cuts and abrasions because they were not taken care of. Many die every year by euthanasia simply because they could not run fast enough.
